In a recent trip to the US I visited along with family one of my favourite restaurants in Chicago, Destihl. Distihl has a great beer selection I must admit but then again, I like cocktails. They recently changed their cocktail offering and I was intrigued by one in particular, the ‘New Fashioned’. It had a nice twist from the traditional ‘Old Fashioned’. Here is the recipe, I hope you enjoy it!
New Fashioned – Desthil
2 oz blended bourbon
1 dash bitters
Serve in an old fashioned glass, add ice and stir. Serve with a swizzle stick.
I recently took a trip to Copenhagen since it had been in my priority short list of places to visit and finally happened. The city is beautiful! Modern, easy to navigate, amazing architecture, great design, super bike friendly… I could easily retire there. When it comes to cocktails, it’s pretty good as well. Although I like to blog more about signature cocktails in London and around the world, I’ll actually share about a Classic Daiquiri.
Just outside of Copenhagen (about 5 minute drive) you’ll find Skybar . An extremely modern an eclectic bar on the 23rd floor of the Bella Sky hotel. The atmosphere is very chilled and laid back yet sophisticated and stylish with amazing views of Copenhagen. The cocktail menu is not long but very selective wich I personally appreciate. Out of all things, I actually went for the Daiquiri and it was flawless!
Usually, when I share about liking Daiquiris, people tend to ask me “what flavour?” Traditionally, a Daiquiri is only one fruit ingredient – lime! I know there are strawberry, banana, mango, etc. But if you haven’t tried a Classic Daiquiri, I would highly recommend you do so.
Here’s my recipe to a killer “Daiquiri”:
2oz. White rum
1oz. Fresh Lime Juice (no artificial lime juice. it pays to squeeze the limes!)
1/2oz. Simple Syrup (if you want my signature recipe, drop me a comment or email)
Serve chilled in a martini glass
Garnish with a lime or mint (optional)
Hope you enjoy it! Feel free to share your thoughts / comments.
